An acquaintance commented about a Christian principal we know who took a firm stand against drinking among students in his institution. He felt the principal was being very rigid and not following in the long-standing tradition of liberalism of the institution.
So what should a christian principal do? Let the students off easy, thinking, "Boys will be boys"? Realise that there are many students who drink on the sly, and the students in question were merely unfortunate in getting caught? Should he close his eyes to these things and pretend they are not happening? Should he arrange to teach students how to drink, and to recognise their limits? Should he speak to them on the evils of drink and the virtues of teetotalism? Call a doctor in to give a seminar on alcohol and drug addiction? Ask an ex-student who had struggled with these things to come one morning and give a testimony and talk? Install cameras in the hostel so that the students' activities can be monitored?
